Campervan rentals Frequently asked questions
What is included in the van?
See a list of everything that is included in our 4-person Mercedes Sprinter here, our 2-person Mercedes Sprinter here, our ProMaster Campervan here and in our Ford Transit Connect here.
WHat should I Pack for my trip?
Everything is pretty much the same like when you rent a car and stay at an airbnb or a hotel. We included linens, dishes, cookware, silverware, and camping essentials. You just have to bring your clothes, toiletries, and food. And for those of you who love detailed checklists, here is a summer packing list and here is a winter packing list.
what time can I pick up and drop off the van?
Our regular pick up time is 3pm and drop off time is 11am. If you would like to pick up the campervan earlier, you can pick it up as early as 10am for a $99 early pick-up fee, if available. If you would like to drop off the campervan later, you can drop it off as late as 4pm for a $99 late drop-off fee, if available.
How will I stay warm in the campervan during winter?
Our camper vans are fully insulated with insulation and we have personally stayed perfectly warm in them at 15 degrees Fahrenheit without even running the heater! Our Sprinters and Promaster have a Webasto built-in heater and our Transit Connect has a Mr. Buddy Heater. The Webasto heater and Mr. Buddy heater will help you get the van warm and toasty. Although the heater has an oxygen safety shut-off, there is a carbon monoxide detector in the van for safety. Additionally, we have an extra-extra warm comforter which many of our renters have absolutely loved! Lastly, we recommend bringing warm pajamas, base layers, fleece, beanie, gloves, wool socks, and maybe even your sleeping bag if you normally run cold. Also remember that you are still in a vehicle so if the morning chills are just too cold, go ahead and turn on the vehicle, pump the heat, and don’t stay in the shade.
How does the battery and electricity work in the campervans?
All of our vans have a second battery that powers everything in the living space of the van including the lights, cooler, USB ports, water pump, and heater. This second battery gets charged every time you turn on the car and drive. If you are interested in going camping somewhere where you will not be starting the van at all, we expect the second battery to last you about 3 days. The main car battery is independent from the second battery so you never have to worry about draining the main car battery.
How it works technically: There's an isolator between the car battery and the second battery, so they're connected when the car key is turned on so they can both charge from the alternator. Once the car key is turned off they're separated. You can drain the second battery completely but the car battery will still be at full charge.
Where can I park and Sleep?
All state/national parks and forests have dispersed and paid campsites. We highly recommend dispersed campsites which are completely free, secluded, and legal. Campervans also make stealth camping safe and easy. If you’d like help planning your trip, let us know! We’d be happy to help out.
Where can I shower?
Most campsites will have showers and most towns have a recreation center where you can pay an inexpensive day pass (typically $5- $10) to use their facilities (showers, bathrooms, gym, pools). Or if you are feeling adventurous, you can shower at a lake or at a river! We also recommend getting a camping solar shower bag from Amazon which you will be able to hang on one of the doors or nearby tree.
Why Should I choose a Discover campervan over an RV?
Discover Campervans are easy to drive and totally functional for all of your camping and road-tripping needs. Driving it is like driving a big SUV that you can park in any normal parking spot and drive on all streets. Plus, everything is really easy to use! On the other hand, RVs are very intimidating to drive and have confusing settings, hookups, and sewer lines. Additionally, most National Parks do not allow RVs because they are too big to be on the road. Even if you do get into the National Park, there is usually no space to park it nor camp.
Why should I choose Discover campervans over renting a car and staying at hotels?
Campervans are the new way to travel. You will get the freedom to explore non-stop until you are ready to pull over and sleep. Forget about checking-in and out of different hotels, getting the top floor room without a view, carrying bags back and forth, packing and unpacking, and forgetting your phone charger at the last hotel room. Discover Campervans allow you to have everything you need (including a kitchen!) and you can sleep by a river, at a campground, at dispersed sites with stunning views, and hidden in between trees.
Do you Offer one-way rental?
With locations in Denver CO and Phoenix AZ we can accommodate some one way rentals. We’re also expanding into new locations, so if you want a one-way rental just check with us.
How many miles do I get for free?
With your rental you get 200 miles per day for FREE! So, if you rent a campervan for 10 days, you will get 2,000 miles for free. Additional miles over the 200 miles per day would be charged upon you return at 35 cents per mile. So, if you drive 2,002 miles on a 10 day rental, you will then owe 70 cents. Keep in mind that other rental companies out there only give you 100 miles per night and that is just not enough to explore! With 200 miles per day, you can easily take an amazing vacation to the national parks in Colorado, Yellowstone, the Tetons, or the mighty 5 national parks in Utah. We are here to help you have a trip of a lifetime!
What is your Pet Policy?
We are pet friendly and we do not have an upfront pet fee. We do have a $100 pet cleaning fee if the van is returned and we can tell that a dog has been present (i.e pet hair/smell). This gives you the opportunity to clean the van before your return (vacuum the pet hair at any gas station vacuum station and/or spray cleaner to remove any smells) and we will not charge the pet fee.
What is your cancellation policy and payment structure?
When you make a reservation with a departure date more than 14 days in advance, a non-refundable reservation deposit of 25% is charged to complete your reservation. Then the remaining balance of your reservation is due 14 days before departure date.
When you make a reservation with a departure date less than 14 days in advance, the full amount is charged at the time of booking.
A 75% refund is offered if a reservation is canceled more than 7 days prior to the departure date. Otherwise, a 50% refund is offered if a reservation is canceled with less than 7 days prior to the departure date.
Our cancelation policy is structured this way because our campervans get booked months in advance and it’s hard to get them filled if someone cancels last minute.
